A mishap

So today we had plans to go to Steamboat Springs. However, due to some incorrect googling, we realized a bit too late that the trip is 3.5 hours, rather than 1.5. Nasur wanted to give it a whirl, but I didn't want to drive for 7 hours. I figure we have time to go - maybe over a long weekend sometime. Instead, we opted to go to the lake. Well, we ended up going to two lakes.

Reyah got up at 7, per usual and then ended up taking a nap about two hours later. Once she woke up, we headed to the farmer's marker to get some produce. There, we learned the difference between a peach and a nectarine. The take-away? Nectarines aren't fuzzy and they have more citric acid. But they're also yummy, so we got some nectarines, some peaches, some green beans (Reyah's favorite), some zucchini, some corn, some peppers, some onion and a cantaloupe. The farmer's market is waaaay smaller than the one in Detroit, but I guess it's a good way to force us to make decisions faster.

We went home to have some lunch and then headed to Boyd Lake. When we got there, we went to the swimming area. Since we come from the land of the Great Lakes, it was a disappointment. The beach itself wasn't sand as much as it was teeny tiny rocks. And when you went in the water, it was mud until you were out pretty far and then still the lake floor was weird-feeling. We opted to cut our losses and headed to Windsor Lake.

Windsor lake was more lake-like and had some pebbles on the lake floor rather than mud. Reyah preferred this lake because it was easier to eat the dirt. After the lake, we headed home and played for a bit while Nasur grilled some hot dogs and burgers.

After dinner, we did about an hour's bike ride, during which Reyah fell asleep. She was already in her jammies, so I can't blame her.

Healthier version of chocolate cake

Lunch: chicken salad on crackers

Not my favorite lake

Much nicer

Dinner: all the meat and some corn
Tomorrow we're headed to register our cars and then we'll see what we find ourselves doing with our free time. Tomorrow I'm also going to do a weigh-in. Hopefully things go well!

Accidental hiker

Since our hike yesterday got rained out, we decided to try again today after checking the weather. It was supposed to be pretty cool and most importantly, dry. We got to Carter Lake and decided to do the 3 mile trail called the Sundance Trail. Perhaps I am super terribly out of shape, but it was hard. And when you go on AllTrails, a bunch of people said it was easy. So, that's insulting. But then some people said moderate or above, so they are my people. We didn't make it the whole 3 miles from shore to shore because the trail was hella rocky with lots of loose rocks and boulders. I was wearing Reyah and we turned around after spending a bit over two hours on our way. On our way back, she kept wiggling out of her carrier, so Nasur took her and oh my God, it was way easier without the extra 20 pounds. I mean, still not fun, but it was a welcome reprieve.

We also weren't the most prepared hikers. We each packed a water bottle and threw it in a backpack that Nasur wore along the way. I made lunch for all three of us and packed it in a cooler, which we left in the car. That was not ideal as we didn't have any food along the way and I think it may have felt less torturous had we eaten. I'm thinking we need to invest in some camelbaks if we want to keep up some hiking adventures. And some common sense may also help: Always. Bring. Food.

Anywho, that took up most our day. I went and soaked in the tub to calm my aching knees and took some motrin when we got home and then Nasur cooked dinner while Reyah and I hung out.

I don't have much in the way of photos today, but here you go!

Today's totals

Tomorrow I have a bunch of stuff for work tomorrow: professional photos, a white coat fitting, and some occupational health stuff. Hopefully we have time for a bike ride or something - that's a whole lot easier on my knees!

Photo update/Phupdate

For those of you who are new to the blog, welcome! I hope you don't regret stumbling upon this treasure trove of my thoughts. Because I said yesterday that I would write a blog update post, here you go. My last post was in 2017. It's been two years. I'd laugh, but residency took all the humor from my life forever. Just kidding. But it did take up all my time. And then I had a baby, so when I thought my time was already all taken, I was wrong. Here's a photographic life update of highlights from my last post in 2017 so that tomorrow we can move on to the task at hand: tackling my journey to health.

And to see some animals (not just fake ones)

And now I plan to spend some time being a bit healthier. I want to be a good role model for the nugget. But I also don't plan on cutting whole food groups out of my life. I want this to be sustainable. I want to make the folks I know proud. I want to make myself proud. And damn it, I want to weigh less!
