Excuses, updates, photos, and minor steps forward and backward

I know, I know. It's been a long time since I've gotten on this dear old blog and done something. Man oh man, do I have a lot of excuses for you: impending board exams, weddings, fiancĂ© visas, general lack of motivation, etc. Also, I've been gaining weight, so who wants to blog about that? Not me!

But, I am. I've been gaining weight this month for a few reasons. Number one is obvious though: lack of activity and good food choices. I'm on primary care this month and holy moly, it's a cush life. Not only are the hours amazing, but I basically don't move when I'm in the office. I kid you not, I wear my fitbit and am lucky if I log 3,000 steps from leaving my apartment in the morning to coming home. Pathetic. I can easily get all 10,000 steps in on an OB day. So, there's that. Number two reason: I have been stress eating like it's my job and I'm working overtime. I've also been bingeing (which is what I meant by stress eating, duh, so ignore the "also" in that sentence). Number three reason: going to the gym is so hard when overall you're feeling lazy and stressed. So, yeah. That's that.

Today, I took a few minor steps towards getting back in the swing of things. First of all, I made my personal trainer weigh me in and do measurements. I also was very frank with him that I needed him to remember to do bi-weekly weigh-ins and that if the responsibility were to remain with me that I would simply let them go by without doing anything (hence the last month). He was very receptive to that. Second of all, I got rid of most the tempting, not-so-good for me foods in my apartment (by eating them all yesterday...besides the point). Third of all, I printed out a calendar for myself to X the days I go to the gym so I can visually see my awesomeness. That's it. It's a start. I was doing so well until this month and then...blah. So, eff that. October will not be a wash. I will make October very dirty (cuz that's the opposite of a wash...?)

These two got married!

Tomorrow will be a great day cuz I'm going to go to the gym and study up a storm and eat well and all that good stuff. I'm not going to do a weigh-in until Monday cuz I don't wanna so you'll have to wait to see my backwards progress ;-)

Oopsies

Sorry about the lack of posts. It turns out that 10 minute layovers are not conducive to blogging and I should totally look at my flight schedule before promising things like legitimate blog entries. My bad. The good news is that I got home today around 3pm. The bad news is that I leave again tomorrow around 7am. It was totally worth coming home for a hot second though because it's always nice to do laundry (since I'm basically wearing the same things) and to sleep in my own bed.

My last two interviews were interesting. Not interesting good, not interesting bad. Just interesting. I think that I've become very used to the midwest culture so it's always interesting to take a look at programs outside of this area. I was in Tennessee and Arizona. Tomorrow I'm hitting up Georgia and will be going to Texas and South Carolina during the rest of the week. Should be fun...ish. I can tell you that I thought I loved traveling, but what I meant was being at the destination, not doing the actual airport/airplane thing. And renting cars is not as cool as you'd think. And living out of a carry-on is also not that ideal. But it's only temporary! And it's all for a good reason!

The other bad thing about traveling is my eating. And when I say bad, I mean bad. Really, really bad. Yikes. There is food everywhere (but on American Airlines' flights...why no pretzels!?) and there are so many options and I have to have it all. I've spent a ridiculous amount on food and consumed a lot  of calories lately. So, since I'm heading out again tomorrow, I've thought up a plan of attack for making sure this stops. It's pretty easy: continue counting calories. Most of the places I went had calorie counts on their menus, so I can't just say that because I'm traveling it doesn't count. I've gotta make smart choices all the time. And I did okay about exercising while traveling, but since I'm giving myself about a day in-between interviews, I know I can probably get in a solid workout everyday. I can also blog a bit more.

So, this next week, these are the goals I'm working on:

  1. Calorie counting (I use the SparkPeople app)
  2. Good workouts
  3. Being conscious about moving while waiting for flights (tomorrow I've got like two hours in Chicago - I could totally walk around for most of that)
  4. Taking ALL THE PHOTOS! Seriously. I used to document everything. I'm going to be obnoxious and do that again.
That's it. Four goals is enough for one week.

Cheers!
