Welcome to December

"Welcome to December, bitch," said Michigan this morning.

I didn't even leave my apartment until like 11:00 a.m. and it was still only 22°F, which was hotter than the RealFeel my phone gave me at 11°F. Great. But yoga was stifling. I convinced my friend Bekah to come to her first ever yoga class with me and because he's the best instructor, there were a lot of people. So, essentially, we did hot yoga. It felt pretty good. I don't mind sweating, so despite nearly dying of dehydration, I enjoyed myself. I'm also finally able to do forward folds without straining to touch the ground. Baller.

The rest of my afternoon was dedicated to running errands: attempting to return a suitcase (T.J. Maxx said, "No refund for you"), getting a refund for my phone screen from Hell, running to meijer to reload my staples: eggs, granola bars, grapes, and cat things, and picking up my dry cleaning (because unfortunately I own dry clean only items...boo). By the time I returned home, my friend and I decided to hang out at my apartment that evening, so I got my butt into gear and cleaned up a little bit around the apartment before heading out for work out #2: Zumba. There were some new songs in the mix for me since I hadn't been in about 2 weeks, but it was a good sweaty time. I love me some dancing.

I also ate food today, which I do everyday, so applause is not necessary. I stupidly forgot I had been sent home with spaghetti, so today's eats (some of which are pictured below) included the following:

Breakfast: eggs, turkey sausage, grapes
Lunch: Trader Joe's baby pizza that is only 250 calories (WIN)
Snack
And then I forgot I was documenting. So, my other snack was some teddy grahams and dinner was some ham and cheese dip that I whipped up because I magically had all the ingredients bought cream cheese on sale so I could make it because I had all the other ingredients.

Then my pal came over and we watched John Mulaney's stand-up on Netflix, chatted a bit and now here I am!

Tomorrow's plans include: strength training in the AM, cleaning and sorting through my things, getting a hair cut in the afternoon, grabbing a cardio session, half-off sushi with some friends, hanging out in the PM, and blogging so as to keep you entertained! Also, packing because I leave early on Wednesday for more interviews. Packing = no fun which is why I chose not to include it in my original outline of plans.

Being sick is boring after one day off

Yesterday, I made an attempt to go to work. When I went outside, my car was stuck in the parking lot (read: my landlord blows and doesn't take care of our parking lot), so I texted another medical student and then walked as fast as possible to the hospital, but was still 5 minutes late. The lovely cold air and 40mph winds made my throat feel pretty awesome and raw by the time I got there. Also, my voice was basically gone. I tried to stick it out, but admitted defeat a little over 2 hours after my arrival and trudged back home.

I watched some TV, hydrated, napped, and then tried to get my car out of the parking lot to go buy some chicken noodle soup (because I was fresh out - I usually try to have 2 cans stocked at all times). No such luck. Thursday we had rain, which then froze, so I'm guessing my car was literally frozen in place. I tried shoveling the ice out, I tried using salt, and I tried calling my landlord. None of these things helped (read: NOT a fan of the landlord as of late). I called and complained to some friends, one of whom came and surprised me with some chicken noodle soup after I ended up calling AAA and asking for a tow. AAA came a little over 4 hours later and my car was freed. And thanks to my membership (thank you, Mom!), it was free.

I ran out and did my grocery shopping right away for fear of my car getting stuck again. Then I came home, watched some netflix and called it a night.

Today I called in the big guns and took some sudafed. My voice is mostly back (though still a bit raspy). And then I started draining forever. My nose has been producing A LOT of clear stuff. I went through an entire box of tissues today. So, obviously the gym was out given that I can't breathe out either nostril. I did, however, feel well enough to study. And to take some food pictures for you. I wasn't all that hungry today, which I attribute to both the nausea and the sudafed. I wish I knew why I was feeling so nauseated. I guess it could be partly because of this virus, but there were parts of the day where I couldn't eat...which is obviously not usually a thing for me.

Breakfast feast: eggs, bagel thin (one with blueberry cream cheese, the other with brown sugar, cinnamon)
Made some guac by adding salsa to an avocado. Ate half of it for a late lunch
Couldn't eat the yogurt because of nausea
Dinner: protein-peanut butter oats
Dinner, part 2
Tomorrow I'm hoping to feel better! I've got a big test Friday and I need to do a bunch of stuff to wrap up all this clerkship crap so that I never have to see children as patients again! So, so, so not doing peds. Nope, nope, nope. You couldn't pay me enough to be a pediatrician. So glad other people want to do that because I would rather die (which could happen since it's probably the kiddos who got me this sick to begin with).

These are a few of my [least] favorite things

Today I woke up 10 minutes early because of the bitch of a snowstorm that decided to hit last night. I knew it would take me a bit to scrape off my car, but I didn't anticipate my car being stuck in the parking lot. Fortunately, I live about 4 blocks from the hospital and don't actually have to drive, but I much prefer a toasty warm pre-heated car to the freezing cold dark streets at 6:15 a.m. That being said, I took to the streets this morning. It takes only a little more time to walk, but as sleep and I are best friends/lovers/inseparable, I'd rather get the 5-7 extra minutes of sleep. After all, that's 25-35 minutes of sleep per week! Also, on days where I go to the gym after work, I like to drive straight there rather than go home first. If I go home first, it's unlikely that I will find my way back out to the gym.

Anywho, I forgot my ID at home today, but fortunately, the med student on nights let me borrow his for the day. It still made for an awkward day as your ID is required to open all the magical employee doors and I didn't have his readily available (I wasn't about to clip it to the front of my white coat), but worse things could happen.

Overall, I'm doing well maintaining my grouchy mood. Today, I have a sore throat and headache. Now that I'm home, I'm feeling a bit nauseated and feverish. We'll see what happens tomorrow. I'm hoping I'm not sick because vomiting is literally my least favorite thing. Well, maybe second least (Michigan weathers might take the cake on that one. Seriously, Mother Nature, calm the eff down already). I hate vomiting so much that despite the persistence of friends that I'll "feel so much better" after I throw up, I would rather feel miserable than throw up. That being said, I don't know anyone who loves throwing up.

And on that note, let's look at pictures of food! I forgot to take a picture of breakfast, but since I eat eggs everyday, it's not really that fascinating...
Today's afternoon snack
Salad to eat while waiting for my chicken to cook cuz I was too hungry to wait
Teriyaki chicken for dinner - I just threw this in the oven (cooking is not my forte)
Leftovers for lunch tomorrow
3 clementines and grapes for lunch tomorrow
Morning snack for tomorrow
Not something I would eat, but something that's adorable just for kicks

My current plans are to hit the gym after work tomorrow as long as I don't make a trip to Vomitville or Sick City. Let's hope I don't.
