Phone seizures

Well, for having run over my phone, it's not functioning that poorly. I mean, on occasion, it has a seizure and won't do anything I want it to do, but I can't afford a new one. So, it'll have to do.

In other news, I was in a poopy mood today. Even though some good things happened, I was being a poopface. I was just down about everything. And if it weren't for this one week challenge, I would have stayed in all night in a poopy mood and likely have eaten my feelings. But, I was like, "One week challenge, Danika." Sooo, I went to the gym and was glad I did. It got me moving, it got me out of the house, and it got me out of a poopy mood (and helped me avoid eating my feelings).

Tomorrow I don't have to be at work until 9:30, which is excellent. I can hit up the gym and do my weights during non-peak hours and I can make a quick trip to the farmer's market to replenish my sourdough bread supply and maybe grab some cinnamon rolls for my trip home this weekend. And then because it's a conference day all day at the hospital close to where I live, I can just bike there. It's going to be awesome.

I think that's about it for now. I'm pooped (but not in a poopy mood anymore) and want to hit the hay. I'm actually getting up earlier than usual to run all those errands before work. Cheers!

Breakfast today
After work snack
Dinner: mini chicken tacos and homemade quacamole
Today's positive: making a gym trip despite really not wanting to...and then being so, so glad I did!

Technology always gets you.

Technology and I are no longer friends, people. My phone may or may not have gotten run over by a car today (which may or may not have been my car) which may or may not have cost me approximately $200 to fix which may or may not have been worth it as it's kinda sorta struggling right now. This means I'm totally looking forward to not having to deal with the stupid phone or stupid Verizon once I head to Africa.

And then my camera decided to just not want to upload photos. So that may or may not make me want to throw it against the wall. And my computer is taking forever to load every single page I open so I may or may not have given up. So, just know this: I worked out despite getting home super late and I ate pretty darn well. And if you love technology, you are dead to me.

Cranky day

I woke up a cranky Danika today. Probably because I'm still struggling from this weekend. Anywho, I got to the hospital a bit early, saw my patient from yesterday, finally met with my attending who told me that the patient I just spent forever with was no longer his patient. Awesome. Then I picked up an ICU patient whose condition is pretty touch and go. As I was reading up on their history, the patient became nonresponsive, so my attending came running over to try and get them to wake up. They weren't responding - not even to a sternal rub, which is pretty uncomfortable. They came around a bit later, but as they are DNR (do not resuscitate), I'm not too sure I'll have a patient to see tomorrow.

After that depressing visit, I headed to a different hospital to present on a patient and then go on cardiology rounds. Around 3, I was free to leave, so I ran home, talked to the boyfriend on the phone, and headed to the gym before it hit peak hours. I didn't get there until 3:45, so I got stuck using a shitty bench to do some of my arm weights. I was annoyed, but usually I'd just leave if it seemed too crowded, so props to me for sticking around. Also, I couldn't find my heart rate monitor, so I went without it today. It's not a big deal, but I usually count on it for timing during my weight training days so I don't rest too long between sets. Meh. I think it was probably normalish without it. But, I did find it tonight, so I'll be all set whenever I use it again.

Since I got home, I called Verizon to tell them the replacement phone they sent me last week was a lemon. Its battery died within 8-9 hours and it typically takes all night for the battery to charge again. They're sending me another replacement tomorrow, which is a bummer because I just got all my settings how I wanted them again.

After getting a new phone ordered, I've been reading up on fluids and electrolyte abnormalities since my attending and I are going to go over those tomorrow. He printed out a bunch of articles for me to read and I've still got one to go (it's short, thankfully).

Tomorrow I'm thinking I'll hit up zumba since I didn't get to go yesterday thanks to having to work late. I'll keep you posted!

Today's positive thing (I forgot yesterday): One of the custodians complimented me on my top today. I'd never worn it before because I wasn't sure I really liked it all that much/that it looked all that great on me, but man, that one compliment really boosted my confidence. Also, I ate my packed lunch rather than buying lunch during today's lunch lecture. Go me.

Expensive day

The verdict on the jar brownies? Delicious. And ridiculously hard to open.

Seriously. That seal was legit and I had to pry it open using all my muscles. Yes, all of them. I hope that statement takes you all to very uncomfortable places.

Anyway, the seal was really tight and the brownie was very delicious. I am pretty excited to hear what all the boys think of them when I finally send out that package. This week is going to be pretty jam-packed, so I'm not certain that it will be any time soon. However, I did discover that you can fill out customs forms online, so that will majorly decrease the amount of time I will have to spend in the Post Office.

Moving on. Today was a very expensive day. I finally decided on which phone to buy after talking to some Verizon Wireless customer service people. I went with the Droid RAZR Maxx HD. They boast a 32-hour battery, which was considerably better than the iPhone's 8-10 hours and I got to keep the operating system I love and it allows way more personalization than does the iPhone. All in all, it was a good decision. And I promised to send my old phone to a friend in Uganda who is over the moon about having the chance to own [a very shitty] American phone. Only problem is that when I went to take the battery out to wipe the memory card, it kind of stopped working. I'll try to troubleshoot that tomorrow (I'm hoping that charging the phone will magically make the battery decide to work again...?). But man, I would feel like an oober bitch promising him a phone and then not being able to send it. That being said, if anyone has an old phone lying around and wants to make a Ugandan happy, feel free to shoot me an e-mail, message, comment, or whatever and we can talk about how amazing you are.

Um, I also cooked today instead of doing school work. Well, not a lot of cooking. I just made some sloppy joe meat and some homemade sweet potato fries. Both were pretty legit. Made for a good dinner.

Lunch and the gym were good today, too. And now I need to go write a paper. It's not due until Friday but it's a time sink and I want to get it done early since we have an exam on Monday of next week that I'm so, so not prepared for.
