Weigh-in Wednesday

Today was my day off for the week. Thankfully, as this was not a postcall day, it allowed me to get quite a bit done. I went to breakfast with my one of my pals at a new-to-me restaurant that was excellent, I got a massage at my place, I met with our financial advisor to put some money into some investments, I sorted through some of Reyah's old clothes to pull out anything we could use with Zayd before we sell/donate her stuff, I cleaned up the kitchen, I did a ginormous load of laundry, I scrounged up all our fall décor and put it up/around our house, I programmed the timer for our outdoor lights, I did a workout in the basement (it was cold and rainy and I couldn't muster up the willpower to brave the weather when I have an awesome elliptical and set of weights downstairs), and I got to chat with my mom a bit to tell her happy birthday. Phew. Big day.

Now I'm waiting to put another ginormous load of laundry away once it's done in the dryer and then I need to prep my charts for tomorrow. No rest for the weary!

Today is also my Ozempic dose day, so I just gave myself my second dose. I also took my first dose of spironolactone today (for my back acne). I've had it for a while, but wanted to give my Ozempic enough time by itself before I added in another med to make sure I knew for certain which side effects were coming from which med, if I were to have any.

I also decided to do a weigh-in today. Truthfully, since my last weigh-in, I've been up and down. But, given my inability to eat hard to chew foods and Ozempic helping me control my appetite, I am happy to report, I'm not longer in the 290s!

Also, I want to give a shout out to myself. I really did not want to go to the gym. It's in the 60s today and rainy and I was ready for some veg time since I had been running around all day. But, I told myself that today I was going to lift, so I did an elliptical warm up and some weights in the basement. So, I'm proud of myself. I stuck to "going to the gym [in the basement]" and since I didn't have to add in the drive time, it was an effective use of time too. Also, my playlist was fire and I was really enjoying some dancing inbetween sets.

Study day and multi-tasking

So today is the first day in a looooong time where I've had a day off and haven't had to do something on that day off. Like technically last week I had Thursday-Sunday off, but I had a wedding of a close friend, so that doesn't count. But today, I got to have a whole day to study, go to the gym, do laundry, eat when I wanted, and so on. It was luxurious. I can't even tell you how much I needed a day like today.

Anywho, one of the things I've noticed today is my compulsion to do more than one thing at a time. For example, when I'm eating, I'm always watching something or reading something. Or when I'm at the gym and I'm on the elliptical, I'm always reading a book for fun (that's mostly to help pass the time). Or when I'm on the toilet, I've always got my phone with me.

Anywho, I think my absence of really paying attention to eating makes me eat faster and eat more without really noticing it. I'm sure I also don't get to enjoy eating as much - like observing the taste, texture, and smells of my food. I'm not sure yet what I'm going to do to be more thoughtful about this. I thought about nixing eating while doing other things, but it saves me so much time in the morning if I'm looking over my patients' charts while I'm eating breakfast. So, I'll have to think about it.

In other news, I got to have a whole day of eats at home today and that almost never happens!

Not pictured is the apple I had for breakfast and the Luna bar I had mid-afternoon as a pre-gym snack. I also tracked my calories all day, which I never get to do and that was good too.

In other news, I hit up the gym for an hour's worth of elliptical today because my hips and low back were being assholes. I thought really getting them going in a low-impact way would be helpful, but I'm still sore. I took some ibuprofen twice today. I might really switch things up tomorrow and swim at the gym to be a little more low-impact. We'll see. I shaved during my post-gym shower just in case ;-)

Cheers!

A day off from the gym

So Thursdays are our long day at work because it's education day. Lectures start at 6:00 a.m. and go to 8:00 a.m. Beforehand, I have to do all my rounds. So, it's usually an early, early day. Fortunately, the 6:00 a.m. lecture was canceled, so it wasn't as early as it could have been. However, Thursday is also our late stay day because the night team has to stay while we are in lectures. So, we start early and end late. Anywho, I have decided given that it's our late day, Thursdays will be my day off gym-wise and will be my night to watch some TV on my iPad, catch up on household chores, and sleep.

So, that's what I did today. Work was busy, busy, busy. I get most my 10,000 steps in before I leave work. And I've decided to do the stairs for everything (minus the start and the end of the day when I'm eager to get to work and eager to leave). Sometimes this means 7 flights at a time. My quads are getting stronger and I'm getting less winded with time.

In other news, I'm officially ordained for my friends' wedding! It was stupid easy. Aaaaand, my dress is on its way. The nice thing about this website my friend chose is that you can do custom measurements so that they get your size rightish. The bad thing is that you don't get to try anything on unless you pay $10 per dress. Sooo, I ordered it sight unseen. Hopefully it looks okay.

Today was a good day eating-wise. I had a good breakfast, which apparently I didn't take a picture of - just eggs, banana, ham, and watermelon. I had my protein yogurt shake during lecture and tried to hydrate because I've been hydrating poorly lately. I had an apple for lunch because it was all I could grab inbetween surgeries and consults. After my last surgery, I grabbed a pear and then a bit later made a trip to the cafeteria and grabbed a grilled chicken sandwich (without cheese) and lots of mango.

When I got home, I opted for just some hydration and then tried to modify the recipe for a single serving cookie. Last time, I followed the recipe to a T. But this time, I opted to soften the butter and use some egg white rather than milk. But, there was a bit too much egg white and it was runny and the cookies turned out a bit cake-like.

Single serving of cookies
So, I'll have to keep modifying since last time the cookie was a bit dry. I'm sure I'll get it one of these days.

Does anyone else know any single serving recipes for dessert? If I make a batch of cookies, I binge eat either the cookies or the dough, so really, it's a no-go for me. I could tell myself that I'll take them to work, but sometimes I don't actually do that. So, no reason to invite that kind of stress in my life.

How is life out there in the real world? I've been trapped in the hospital a lot lately and I'm working yet again this weekend - it's the 5th or 6th one in a row now. Blech.
