Planning ahead for success

Okay. Days are rough. Nights are nice because you just do admissions - you basically meet the patient, have a basic plan in place and then tuck them in for the evening. Days require you to do the things you've planned. I have a good preceptor this week who really likes teaching, but there's been a lot going on this week: exam on Tuesday, final dress fitting tonight, H&P due Thursday, hair cut/eyebrow wax on Friday. I know that doesn't seem like much, but when your days are long, you have something that requires you to be a certain place at a certain time and then you're supposed to put in a good few hours studying every night, it's a lot. And I'm trying to fit in the gym and eating healthy with that.

I'm doing okay on the gym part, but my eating has been a lot of grazing the past two days. Finally, I figured out why: I didn't plan ahead. The last few weeks I've been successful because a) I've been able to eat most of my meals at home (and thus able to eat what I'm actually craving when I'm craving it) and b) I've cooked enough food to get more than one meal out of it. So, tonight I put out some salmon to defrost. I'll either marinate before or after work tomorrow and then at least have dinner planned. I've also got some asparagus that'll go well with it.

I still can't stand packing lunches though. I hate, hate, hate it. I just feel limited by what I can bring and a lot of the things I like to eat don't do well with sitting for long periods of time. I've gotta scope out the cafeteria better tomorrow so I can figure out if there's a toaster or toaster oven available.

Anyway, I probably do have pictures, but I didn't get an opportunity to upload them. Taking photos on my phone makes uploading a non-issue, but the quality is not so hot. Sorry - beggars can't be choosers!

I've gotta go read up on secondary hypertension for tomorrow, so I'll catch you guys tomorrow!

Oh, today's positive: Bailey is done with his antibiotics! We're down to one pill a day and two ear rubs. THANK GOD. And speaking of phone photos, here's one of the baby.
So damn cute

Working nights, compounding, and photos

The thing I like about nights is being able to do things during the day that otherwise I wouldn't be able to do. The thing I don't like about nights is waking up in the early afternoon and feeling like the day is already gone. The thing I do like about nights is being able to go to the gym during non-rush hours. The thing I don't like about nights is missing Zumba on Thursdays and Fridays because it's too late. The thing I do like about nights is being let out early once the admissions slow down. The thing I don't like about nights is just doing admissions.

But, this week is my last week of nights. I was supposed to be on nights next week, but I rearranged my schedule after a classmate had some schedule changes. Worked out well for me. Anywho. I don't have a whole lot to say, so I'll just post some photos and go read about EKGs. I don't work tonight, but I do work tomorrow night and Saturday night, so gotta cram while I can.

Today's positive: picked up Bailey's compounded meds. I figure I'll start giving him the compounded version of his thyroid pill once his antibiotics are finished. He still has one pill that can't be compounded, but it's only once a day rather than twice like his thyroid pill. Also, his thyroid compound was majorly expensive - over $50. Hopefully his liver recovers from whatever's going on and he can do the radioactive iodine uptake therapy that essentially kills off the part of his thyroid that is hyperfunctioning. Then, no more compounded meds!

Fruit pizza - I got two good slices out of that
Bailers - he sleeps like this.
Post-strength training protein smoothie
My AC is in my bedroom, so I make a path of cool air with fans
Legit camped out in the AC (sorry it's blurry!)
Snack
My EKG book told me to take a break - okay!
Dinner (I forgot to take the corn to a grill out this weekend so now I have 4 ears for me)
Lunch?
Lunch
Salty and sweet snack
A very orange/yellow dinner
I'll try to blog before heading to work tomorrow night!

Cat anger, outdoor naps, and home pedicures

Giving pills to a cat is worse than packing a lunch. And you guys know how I feel about packing lunches. In short: it's the fucking worst. Bailey just won't do it. He's basically like, "Oh, this is supposed to be good for me. FUCK THAT AND FUCK YOU AND FUCK EVERYTHING." Yes, my cat has a lot of pent up anger. Stop judging me. I inherited him at age 6 - these behaviors were already ingrained.

Anywho, I reached out to facebook and was told a few helpful things: pill pockets, peanut butter + pills = cat that focuses on swallowing PB and not the pills, and compounding. My vet asked me how Bailey did with pilling and I was like hmm, Idk cuz I've never had to do it. She should have taken that opportunity to tell me that giving cats a pill is the fucking hardest thing ever. I didn't anticipate this as I grew up with dogs who took pills like it was no big deal. You just take the pill, wrap it in turkey, and voilĂ ! The pill disappears! Fucking dogs. They're way better than cats.

Enough with my cat troubles. Today I arrived to work on time. I slept in pretty late which meant breakfast in the car (I made a bagel and ate some grapes), and then got out at 1 rather than 4, which was much nicer. When I got home, I made English muffin pizzas (which I forgot to snap a picture of), I finished making my fruit pizza (photos to come tomorrow), tried giving Bailey his pills like 1000 times, and then decided to head outside to study. I went to this track/field nearby with a blanket and started reading my EKG book. An hour later, I woke up to my phone beeping at me. Apparently, I was tired. I came home, gave myself a pedicure (because these stupid new flip flops I bought are ridiculous to break in and my feet hurt), and then watched a movie and did some studying.

Soon I'll be emptying my dishwasher and packing up some snacks for the beach tomorrow.

Photos for today (sorry, I forgot about taking pics until later):
Soak the feet first
Polished!
Half ass dinner: home made cheese biscuits - I needed to use up some cheese and my stomach was being an asshole, so I didn't have much of an appetite.
Today's positive: Having friends who are more knowledgeable about giving pills to a cat than I am. Thank you. And if anyone else has any suggestions, please leave a comment!

Also, so you don't think I'm completely useless, I did do some arm exercises at home with some weights I have, but I didn't hit up the gym. I will tomorrow though - right after my weigh-in! I'm putting the camera in the bathroom now!

Cheers. Good luck to me on my weigh-in tomorrow. Fuuuuuuck. Hooray!
