Mindless Munching

So today was a longer day with lots of little temptations throughout. To begin with, it was an early one - I had to be at work at about 5. So, I was tempted to sleep a bit more and skip breakfast. But then I'd die of hunger for sure. So, that was out and my butt had to get out of bed at like 4 to shower and make myself some food. I grabbed a protein yogurt shake on my way out the door and made the quick drive to the hospital, updating Nasur on the life of a doctor in America.

Then during our two hour meeting from 6-8, there was a huge platter of donuts, muffins, and bagels with some apples and oranges. I opted for a bagel (which I held on to until my tummy started to rumble a bit after 7) and grabbed an apple for later. I had a blueberry muffin when another hunger pang hit around 9:30 and held out until lunch around 1:30. Today was the first day we had our meal cards (the hospital gives us $1300 for food over a year), so I went to the cafeteria where there were lots of yummy looking options, but I opted for a chicken sandwich and yogurt. Mid-afternoon, I finally ate that apple and by the time I was done with work, I was starving.

Since I promised to grab some stuff from Trader Joe's for the family, I headed straight there and picked up their requests as well as a chicken sandwich and some fruit bars. As I was chowing down in the car, I realized I didn't care for the sandwich nor did I care for the fruit bar. And then I realized that I do that all the time: I eat an entire package/serving/bowl/whatever without actually liking it. And I do it mindlessly most often. Because I go on autopilot when I eat: see an entire plate of food, eat the entire plate of food. I think we all do that and we're bred to do that - popcorn at the movies? Snacks while we work? It's just stupid. It's also a lot of calories I don't need, so I'm being a bit more mindful about it!

Anywho, it's only 8:15 and I didn't get to the gym, but I'm going to go drag my butt to bed for like 12 hours. I'm exhausted. I have a free personal training session tomorrow, so I'll let you know how that goes!

Here are some photos from today:

Breakfast: eggs, cantaloupe, blueberries, banana bread
The last of the chicken sandwich I didn't eat
I liked the nutrition facts, lol
The texture? Ew.
Spotted banana snack when I got home - the best kind of banana snack!
1 serving of fruits and veggies per 8 oz, so 8 oz for me!
Snacky-poo

Do you do any mindless munching?

  1. Good job today!! TV and studying are the times when I am most prone to munching mindlessly. Maybe I should study less... 😉

  2. I'm super guilty of mindless eating. It's like "am I really hungry? Or am I just eating cuz it's there and I'm bored?" uggggh

All your choices were good today even though! The lack of protein in the morning could have set off your hunger signals to eat more in the morning (just a thought)

sometimes I get enough protein and still want to eat everything all day though so...maybe not lol.

Hope your training session goes awesome!
