Ballin' in the fitness center

This is going to have to be a relatively quick entry because I need to get to bed. But, today was an okay day food-wise. I decided to wake up at 9:00 a.m. because my body needed the recharge. Then I had a quick tea and South Beach diet bar to hold me over until lunch at 12:30ish.

As 12:30 approached, my stomach let me know that this teeny breakfast was not doing it. But I didn't want to pay $10 for the breakfast buffet, so I just went with it. Lunch was grilled teriyaki chicken, green beans, brown rice, and broccoli salad. It was pretty decent as lunches go. I was glad that it was relatively healthy. There was also a baby key lime pie that I tried that wasn't so great.

When I got back to the hotel around 4/4:30ish, I needed to decompress so I started trolling the webs and watching The Hundred-Foot Journey. But it was loading really slow because I was using the free internet which was not meant for streaming. So, around 5:30, I decided to go drive around the city to get a feel for it and grab dinner. Because I'm in the south, it was clear that I was going to have to go to Chick-Fil-A. There is only one in Michigan and it's way too far from me, so I have to satisfy the craving while in the south. Now, it wasn't the healthiest thing I could have eaten, but I got the 3 count chicken strips (rather than the 4) and a small waffle fries (instead of the large) and didn't get a drink (instead of getting their to die for vanilla milkshake). When I'd eat it in North Carolina, I'd get the 4 count chicken strips meal with a medium vanilla milkshake. So: PROGRESS, BITCHES.
Dinner + hotel fruit granola bar for dessert
I finished the movie while eating and then hit up the fitness center like I promised myself. There was one lady in there who left quickly after I came so I had the place to myself. I watched Brooklyn 99 on my iPad and then turned on Biggest Loser during my 45 minutes of cardio. This is my usual set-up:

Then I did a little bit of weights, some triceps, and some ab stuff. It was nice having the place to myself because I haven't done tricep dips in forever and I wasn't sure I would even be able to do them. Nope. Totally could. I also did sit ups on a exercise ball, which I haven't done in forever. They're hard because you do more back extension than a normal sit-up but you have to make sure you're not cheating and just moving the ball. I could feel it by the end of my three sets. And lastly, I did some medicine ball slams where you do 30 seconds of slamming the medicine ball down as hard as you can so it bounces, catching it, and then switching to the other side. You get 30 seconds of rest between each set and do it 6 times. I'm usually dying by the end. All in all, it was a great workout. I got to try out a lot of things I haven't done in a while all because I was by my lonesome and would've been too embarrassed to do it public. Boo yeah.

25 lb weights cuz I'm a baller
Tomorrow I'm going to hit up a Subway on my way to the airport to buy a healthy and cheap lunch (and probably also a healthy breakfast) to keep things affordable instead of waiting until I'm in the airport.

And now, bed. I have to be up at 6:30 tomorrow to get on the road to return my rental car and get to my flight on time. Boarding starts at 10:10 a.m. and take off is 10:45. I'm headed to San Antonio for another interview. The chair of my department highly recommended the program, so I hope it's good!

Weird Day

You guys. Today has been weird. I woke up at the normal time to get ready for hospital fun and my preceptor emailed us at like 11:06 p.m. to tell us our assignments. Turns out I didn't have to be in until noon (and work until 8pm). Not cool. Wish I'd known that before I'd gotten out of bed, given that I was still pooped from the weekend. I ate breakfast, did some schoolwork, and then took a nap for like two hours.
Apparently my kitchen was pink today
I got up, got ready, had lunch, and headed to the hospital and then sat around for a half hour until the admitting doctor finally came up to talk to me. I had one consult and then sat around for a little under two hours, had one admission (which took 2.5 hours because the attending took forever getting back to me - to be fair, he was busy) and then they let me go at 7:15.

After work, I ran to the pharmacy to pick up my prescription (since it was closed when I went grocery shopping last night) and finally got home a little before 8. Then I had some calls to follow up (landlord drama) and finally settled in to research the four different types of multiple sclerosis and put together a patient case presentation for tomorrow. Now I'm pooped. But I'm still blogging cuz I told myself I'd do this everyday in May and because I love you. Yes, you. I love you.

Photos from the rest of the day:
Lunch
Dinner (same enchiladas from last week - gotta love having prepped food when you get home late!)
Animal crackers + EKG stuff
Clearer version of EKG stuff and almonds later
And now, bed! Because I actually have to be at work at 8 tomorrow.

Psych schedule is the best

Hi. Sorry it's been a while since I've posted. I have been thoroughly enjoying psych's hours. I've been going to the gym a lot and studying...ish. I've also had a lot of random days where food was provided, so I didn't take a lot of pictures nor did I do a lot of logging. But today I actually logged all my food and took pictures again.

Also, it's been a little over two weeks since I really got into going to the gym and working out more. I'd forgotten how much I like strength training. Yay, muscles! My thighs are getting more toned and my arms are feeling nice and muscular. Just gotta keep up the good work when the schedule goes back to not being done by 12 noon/1 p.m.

Food photos!
Breakfast
Lunch
Post-strength training protein smoothie
Stomach settling pretzels
Light clam chowder for dinner

Sick Day

Yesterday, I was pretty sure I had a fever and was super nauseated. I didn't go to work until the afternoon and when I did, I was sent home. But, as we had class in the afternoon, I ended up just going to school to study and then went to class. I felt pretty nauseated the whole time. Today, my nausea is mostly gone and I think the fever is too, but my sore throat was worse. I've been hydrating and all that good stuff to feel better, but I didn't go to the hospital so as not infect the kiddos. Also because I'm pretty sure being around the sick kiddos is what did me in in the first place.

I've been trying to study and eat well today, but my brain just isn't feeling it. Also, can we talk about serving sizes? Some of them are ridiculous. Like tonight I made some mediocre Buitoni pasta thing, but the serving size was 110 grams. That was like less than half a bowl, which turned out to be a blessing in disguise because it wasn't very good, but still.

In other news, I tried to really spice up my diet and eat something new every night. Lunches are obviously less exciting, but I think trying to add variety will help me eat a bit healthier and be happier about it - like I needn't eat the same boring "healthy" things.

Here are some food pics from the last two days:
Chicken noodle soup for the upset tummy
Salty snacks also for the tummy
Not such a good idea for a bad tummy, but I was feeling better...
Breakfast this morning once the nausea kicked back in
Snack
Dumplings for lunch
Afternoon snack
Buitoni is gross and it broke my spoon
This is one serving size. Pathetic.
So I doused it with tomato sauce
Tomorrow I have a date with one of my close medical school friends to go do some zumba and study. Hopefully I'm feeling up to it. Right now I'm feeling like 50%, but I'll go as long as I'm feeling about 75%. It'll be my first outing for exercise all week. Don't blame me - I was all sick and shiz.
