A womp, womp kind of day

Sorry to not have posted yesterday, but Danny came over during my regular blog time and I am sick so I didn't want to stay up any longer than necessary. So, here are some pics from yesterday:
Breakfast: turkey sausages, strawberries, chocolate almond milk
Lunch: chicken salad with rainbow trout spread on crackers
Protein shake after the gym
Trader Ming's (such hilarity!) chicken egg rolls
Asian-inspired dinner: Teriyaki chicken wings and chicken egg rolls
Danny looking annoyed, his usual look when we're together
This morning I woke up with a terrible sore throat and headache, and thus skipped the gym. But, I did have a quick breakfast much like yesterday's.

I got to work and finished making 20 different solutions before lunch [read: Danika is a bamf]. Then I met up with Danny at La Zeez to enjoy an Indian lunch.

My second plate (I gobbled up my first plate too quickly to take a pic)
Naan!

Yum!
After lunch, I went home to sleep off what I was hoping would be the worst of my cold and then woke up to study a bit for my quiz in Medical Terminology. I also had some chicken soup and yogurt for dinner.
Organic chicken noodle soup. Why did I only buy one can?
Look at how awesome this is!
Dessert - I chose it mostly for the honey for my throat
After my studying, I went to medical terminology and told my professor that I felt really sick. He had me turn in my paper, told me there was no quiz (glad I woke up from my nap early to study...), and sent me home.

But instead of going home, I went to meijer to get some cold stuff and ended up spending over $50 again. Ughs. This always happens! But I did get some much-needed stuff: toilet paper, air freshener refill, dishwasher detergent, spinach, tomatoes, grapes, bananas, a Luna bar, taco seasoning, green beans, and some organic milk.

Once home, I watched Glee. Now it's time for bed because I'm feeling really crappy. I still plan on doing personal training tomorrow, but I'm going to take it easier this week since breathing is a struggle. The timing of this cold is kind of ironic. Right after I make all these promises to myself about being healthier, I am too sick to actually stick to them. But, I did track my calories and I did do a daily affirmation.

Any suggestions for getting over this cold faster?

Flirting with Failure

Sorry to have left you dedicated followers again, but I went to Ann Arbor again this weekend to attend Rachel's last party of her undergraduate career. Sadly, she is graduating!
Rachel and me
And there were some other wonderful people there that I always love seeing!
Matt and me - He's probably going to kill me for putting this up
Anna and me
Anthony and me
But, let's get down to some business, shall we? I need to talk to you about one of the most unpleasant things ever. The f-word: Failure. Nobody likes it. Most people say it's not an option (Apollo 13 reference in honor of my freshman roommate...). Me? I fear it. But, alas. We shall talk about how Failure and I are hanging out quite a bit lately.

As I posted on Wednesday, I've gained 3.2 pounds. To me, this is a Failure. Not because I'm expecting to lose weight every time I step on the scale (which would be awesome if life really worked like that), but because I know I'm the reason I failed. Let's delve a bit deeper, shall we?

I have been eating in secret...ish. You see, I've been good about taking pictures of my balanced meals, but you haven't seen the behind-the-scenes footage. Mostly because I don't want to show you. Because then you'll judge me and get all disappointed (I hate disappointing people). But since this blog is all about honesty and getting on the right track to healthy living, I'm going to let you in on the ugliness that is the behind-the-scenes footage...ish.

One day this week, I ate about six slices of cheese as a "meal." One afternoon, I ate three cupcakes. Another afternoon, I ate four cadburry orange cream eggs. And another day I ate three cookies in one sitting. And I definitely didn't track these calories because it'd be too disheartening. I went into self-pity mode for a while (and ate more because I'd already screwed up, so why not really screw up?), but now my attitude's shifted a bit. Why? Because I realize I'm worth it. This whole thing is really freaking hard, but don't I deserve to like my body? Don't I deserve to feel good? Don't I deserve to be healthy? (The answer to all these rhetorical questions is yes). So, instead of pitying myself for flirting with Failure, I've decided to get pissed at Failure and show Failure who's boss.

I will be tracking all of my calories this week. I will be going to the gym everyday. I will not indulge in sweets (because if I eat one, I won't stop). I will not go out for food. I will stop making excuses. And this week, I am going to be more positive. I'm starting a new tab on my blog called Daily Affirmations. Here I will say one nice thing about myself everyday to help keep things a bit more positive. This will actually probably be a challenge because I'm really great at saying why I suck, but not so good at saying why I'm awesome spectacular amazing fantastic great stupendous. See? I told you. :-D
