Moving with the kiddos

I took an unintentional break from blogging because, Dear Reader, life got stupid. It takes very little these days to overfill my schedule because baseline, it's hectic and this week was very hectic. I had the kiddos Wednesday and Thursday, which is always great, but also, is it? Because kids can be assholes sometimes. Thankfully, they weren't, but the potential is always there.

Wednesday night, we did an Urban Air night, which is like a trampoline park. There was a school fundraiser, so I figured we'd go because the kids would definitely get a kick out of it and it would mean maybe helping out the school. I doubt the school made much money out of it because there were very few kids who came, but we did our part...ish. It also allowed me to get some movement in with the kiddos. One of the things I sorta kinda realized with my divorce is that Nasur was the parent who predominantly did the active playing with the kids. Part of that is because I tended to be the busier of the two of us, but it's also because I am not nearly as physically fit as that tiny jacked Ugandan is. I mean, don't get me wrong, they want to play a board game? No problem. Sit and watch a movie? Consider it done. Go for a walk? Totally game. Run around and jump on things? Hard stop. So I've been trying really hard to at least try and/or do my best during the kids' active play time. So, Wednesday, I jumped on some trampolines and scurried after them. On Thursday, I would consider myself a parent playing success. Thursday was Reyah's last soccer practice and her coach coaxed us into a scrimmage of parents versus kids. The kids had the best time and I played soccer for the first time since I was like 10. And even though my lungs felt like they were bleeding for the first bit, I did it. Nasur was also there and made it look stupidly easy and did all these fancy foot work tricks, but alas, I am not African and thus was not raised on soccer as a way of life. So, I'll take my little bit and be proud.

Friday, Saturday, and today I'm the on call doc for the day shift. This obviously severely limits my ability to do other things, but on Friday, I made it to Reyah's last soccer game and got to be home when the garbage disposal stopped working and I got to discover the outside freezer was pretending to be a refrigerator. That was cool. I fixed the garbage disposal and thawed the whole freezer and hoped it would work again after that. On Saturday, I was able to get back home, plug the freezer back in (it's currently working) and clean out the hot tub before our sprinkler blow out. I also got to clean up my house. I'm hosting a work meeting there tomorrow and I'd like the people I work with to come to a home that is cleanish and it's easiest to clean when my kiddos aren't around. So, cleaning was a success. I also made a trip to Whole Foods to get some ingredients for a salad I really like that a chef I follow posted.

Today I'm at the hospital where we are stuck in house, so I'm catching up on charts, went for a walk, and was able to help a residency pal prep for her boards. Normally it's absolute chaos at this hospital, but perhaps less folks are coming out and about given that it's cooling down a bit. And for those of you who are wondering, I did a Peloton walk listening to my boo, Alex Toussaint again. His voice is smooth, he's got good rhythm and his playlists are killer. If it continues to be slow, I may be able to go do another little walk with my Peloton boo. Time will tell!
